Ep. 12: When Light Reveals What's Already There

We have a husky puppy and a black lab mix at our house, so no matter how much I vacuum, sweep, or Swiffer, dog hair seems to multiply by the hour. Most of the time, I just walk right past it....until the afternoon sun shines through the window just right at about 2pm everyday. Suddenly, every speck of dust, billow of dog hair and dust bunny becomes impossible to ignore.

The light didn’t create the mess—it simply revealed what was already there.

I think God works the same way.

Sometimes He shines His light on an attitude, a fear, a habit, or a place in our hearts that we’ve overlooked. Our first reaction can be guilt or discouragement, feeling like we’re falling short or not doing enough. But God’s heart isn’t to shame us.

He doesn’t reveal things to condemn us. He reveals them so He can heal us.

The places God brings into the light are often the very places where He wants to bring freedom, growth, and restoration. His conviction is always an invitation, never a rejection.

Psalm 139:23–24 records David’s prayer:

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

David’s goal was transformation. He was asking God to search his heart, reveal anything that didn’t belong, and lovingly guide him back into alignment with His will.

So let that be your Pulse Check this week. If God has been gently exposing something in your life lately, don’t pull away from His light or run back to the comfort of the darkness. Lean into it. Take His hand and let Him guide you.

Because the light isn’t there to prove you’re failing. It’s there to remind you that God loves you enough to keep refining you.
