About Us
Altrua Ministries exists to glorify Christ by serving those in need through prayer, generous giving, and faithful stewardship of the resources entrusted to us.

Altrua Ministries
Altrua Ministries, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization doing business as Altrua HealthShare, was founded on a simple truth: we are called to care for one another.
Established in 1997, Altrua was created to provide a faith-based alternative to healthcare rooted in community, stewardship, and compassion. As a recognized health care sharing ministry established prior to December 31, 1999, Altrua meets federal guidelines that allow its members to participate in healthcare sharing and qualify for exemption under the Affordable Care Act.
From the beginning, Altrua was never just about building an organization. It was about building a ministry that serves people in a real and meaningful way. Altrua Ministries was founded by Randall and Robbi Sluder, who shared a vision to serve people both physically and spiritually. Before launching Altrua, Randall founded Crown Healthcare Negotiators and Crown Healthcare Administrators and has worked closely with Health Care Sharing Ministry to help reduce medical costs for members. Through that experience, he saw clear gaps in structure, transparency, and care. At the same time, Randall and Robbi were deeply rooted in ministry and felt called to build something different. Altrua was created to meet medical needs while living out the biblical call to carry one another’s burdens, a principle that continues to guide everything the ministry does.
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Galations 6:2
Altrua exists to be the hands and feet of Jesus by serving members, walking with families through medical needs, and building a community where no one stands alone. This is not simply a financial structure but a shared commitment to care for one another, reflecting the example of the early church where believers met needs together. From the beginning, Robbi led the heart of the ministry while Randall built the healthcare and operational foundation, and together they shaped what Altrua is today. After Robbi’s passing in 2017, the ministry continued forward with the same conviction and care that defined its beginning. Today, that legacy continues through strong leadership and a family foundation, with Randall's son Joshua Sluder serving as Chief Operating Officer and helping guide the ministry into its next season of growth.
Throughout its history, Altrua has remained grounded in integrity, compassion, and a commitment to serve people well. From its early foundation to its expansion across the nation, the mission has remained steady even as the reach has grown. In moments of great need, including the COVID-19 pandemic when over one million dollars was provided to support members, the ministry has demonstrated what it means to show up with both faith and action. Looking ahead, Altrua is focused on reaching more families, strengthening its community, and continuing to lead with innovation while staying rooted in its purpose. The vision is not only to grow in size but to deepen impact, extending care, hope, and support to more people while remaining faithful to the calling that started it all.
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Matthew 25:40

What We Believe
Our values are rooted in Scripture and guide how we live, give, serve, and care for others.
Prayer is our First Response
Prayer shapes everything we do. We bring needs before God daily, share stories of His power, and strengthen families with hope and encouragement.
Compassion is our Calling
We are called to reflect Christ’s love through compassion found in God’s word. By walking alongside others in their struggles and joys, we bring comfort, hope, and healing that point people back to Him.
People are our Priority
We care for Altrua HealthShare families facing medical, financial, or emotional hardship. With the support of generous donors, we bring relief, care, and encouragement.
Service is our Action
We put love into motion by serving in crisis and in everyday need. Through volunteerism, disaster relief, and our Hope Hotline, we extend Christ’s love to those in need.
Generosity is our Privilege
We see it as a privilege to be generous. Every act of generosity is a sacrifice that pleases God and blesses His people.
Partnership is our Multiplication
Combining resources through purposeful partnerships, we reach further and serve more people.
