Ep. 5: Strength in Weakness

Hello friends. It's a rainy evening here, and I'm in between my child's extracurricular activities. I just had a moment to think about the sermon from this past weekend.
The pastor was wrapping up a series called Misquoted, about quotes we hear and say all the time that sound good and sound biblical, but are actually not in scripture. The one he brought up this weekend, I am definitely guilty of saying. God won't give you more than you can handle.
It sounds great. It's encouraging to hear. But then when you go through a really tough circumstance and realize, I can't handle this, you end up feeling like a failure.
What he talked about is that there is a verse in 1 Corinthians that says when we are tempted, the Lord will never give us a temptation that is too big. He will always give us a way out. But the discouraging truth underneath all of that is yes, we are sometimes given situations that are too much for us.
The exciting news, and what we uncovered from God's Word, is that this isn't a failure. It's actually an invitation. And that is so freeing when you really think about it.
In 2 Corinthians, Paul talks about how the Lord's grace is sufficient for us, and His power is made perfect in our weakness. So when we are weak, God's power shows up. He does what He does best. We try and hold it all together, and then we get to the end of ourselves and hand it over to God, and He actually shows up. He gives us peace. He gives us a way forward. Your circumstances may not change, but you have God partnering with you, and there is a supernatural peace that surrounds the whole situation.
If you've never experienced this, this is your invitation. Ask God to come into whatever it is you're going through. I've seen it. I've felt it. The power of the Lord comes in, and it is the most freeing feeling you can ever imagine.
We try to white knuckle everything, but the biggest flex is actually pausing before reacting, praying, letting go of the control in whatever area you're gripping tightly, and just being honest with God. This is too much for me.
Faith isn't proving you can do it all. It's trusting God when you can't.
So go into the rest of this week and remember, you are not meant to carry it all. You are invited to hand it over to the One who can.
Have a blessed rest of your week, and thanks for hanging out with me for a few minutes.
