Ep. 7: Consistency Over Intensity

If you've ever set a fitness goal, achieved that goal, and most importantly maintained it, then you understand the importance of consistency over intensity.

I've been in the fitness industry, on and off, for about 20 years in different capacities. One thing I've noticed over and over again is that people come in really excited. They think transformation happens in the huge workouts, the super intense training sessions, the perfect meal plan, or those seasons where they're all in.

But what I've found is that real strength and real change happen in the small, repeatable, everyday steps over a long period of time.

It's drinking the water every day.

It's showing up every day.

It's choosing consistency over intensity.

And honestly, I think my faith works the same way.

Sometimes I make my relationship with God feel very black and white. If I miss a morning devotional, get distracted for a week, or don't have some deep emotional connection with the Lord that I was hoping for, I start to believe I've failed.

But the reality is that we're not going to have perfect conditions every single day.

I think about it like a root system. A big, healthy tree doesn't experience perfect conditions all the time. Some days there's plenty of sunshine. Some days there's rain. Sometimes there's even a drought season.

Yet the tree stays connected to its source, and because of that, it continues to thrive. We're built the same way.

We don't have to perform perfectly every single day to be deeply rooted.

Some days our connection with God looks like worship music, journaling, and waking up at 5:30 in the morning. Some days it's praying in the car. And some days it's simply crying out, "Lord, help me today."

And all of that matters.

But if we fully disconnect for too long, eventually we start to feel dry, weak, and empty. Not because God has left us or moved on to someone else, but because we've stopped staying connected to the source of life.

I've found that the healthiest routines, both in fitness and in faith, are the sustainable ones. The ones that keep us rooted, not rigid.

So this week, I'm challenging myself—and maybe you too—not to chase perfection, but to chase connection.

A little movement.

A little prayer.

A little time with Him every day.

The small things done consistently can change your whole life and the trajectory of your future.

So let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him.

"Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him." — Colossians 2:7
