Ep. 3: When Life Goes Sideways

Hi friends, I'm in the school parking lot today, sitting here waiting for my child to get out of school. I had a few minutes, so I wanted to do a little Pulse Check with y'all.
I've been thinking a lot lately about plans. At the start of every week, I'm making new ones. I've got a pretty solid calendar in place. The meals are usually scheduled out for the week. The family schedules are mapped out, who is picking up who from where and when. I send out the text. I'm thinking, alright, I've got this. I'm getting all of life planned out.
And then life happens. Someone forgets their homework. My car starts making a weird noise. Someone wakes up sick. The dog gets sick, and it's usually all over the rug. Something just always pops up, and everything you planned for falls to the wayside.
When those moments happen, it can feel like everything is spinning out of control. And this verse always comes to mind. We actually have it posted up on our calendar. "The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps." (Proverbs 16:9)
In other words, we make the plans, but God is the One guiding where we actually go.
Honestly, there is something really freeing about that. It means I don't have to hold on to everything. I have a death grip on life a lot of times. I'll white knuckle it all. But the truth is, I make the plans, and then I just have to trust God with the rest.
So if your week goes a little sideways, or a lot sideways, take a breath. Don't be surprised by it. Give it all up to the Lord, because He has already gone ahead of you and He is already walking in victory for you. Let's walk in that victory with Him and surrender it all. No matter what you get hit with, He is in control. Find some freedom in that.
Thanks for being here. I'll see you next week for another Pulse Check.
